Lesson 3.3 described seven mechanisms of action. A practitioner who can name all seven and explain how each one works has learned the science. A practitioner who knows what to do differently on Tuesday because of that knowledge has made the translation.

The translation isn't automatic. Knowing that Default Mode Network modulation correlates with the quieting of self-referential thought doesn't by itself tell you what to say in the preparation conversation before a session, or when to stay quiet once the session begins. That connection has to be made explicitly.

This mini-lesson makes it explicit. For each mechanism, one or two practitioner actions; the specific things you do before, during, or after a session to create the conditions for that mechanism to operate well.

Over-facilitation during the session, checking in too frequently or narrating the experience, keeps the client in social and linguistic processing rather than in deep immersion. Perspective Shift: the practitioner action is the preparation conversation about avatar and viewpoint. Before any session involving significant body or perspective change, the client needs to know what they are about to inhabit and why. This conversation frames the experience and increases the probability that what the client encounters from the new position can be processed usefully. It doesn't have to be long; it needs to be explicit. The practitioner who skips this conversation and lets the default settings determine the client's embodied experience is making a clinical decision by omission.

Neuroplasticity: the learning window opened by a potent session doesn't close immediately. Early research suggests it may remain elevated for days. The practitioner action is to structure contact within that window: a follow-up conversation, a reflection prompt, a journaling practice, or a scheduled integration session within the first few days after. What is worked with in this window is encoded differently than what waits until the window has closed.
Multimodal Synchrony: the practitioner action is a coherence check before the session begins. Spatial audio, visual-movement correspondence, and haptic elements where available should reinforce each other rather than conflict. This is a technical and design responsibility; a session that is visually strong but aurally incoherent will consistently underperform what its content deserves.
Integration: the practitioner action is structure. Integration doesn't happen by itself; it requires explicit bridging between what occurred in the session and what the client is returning to. Before the headset comes off, name the close of the session. After, move from the felt experience toward the practical: not only 'what happened' but 'what does this mean for how you're living?' The session is the catalyst. Integration is the chemistry.

When a session was powerful but the client reports nothing changed: check Integration. The mechanism activated; the bridge from session to life wasn't built.
When a client is dysregulated early: check Emotional Regulation. The environment may not have matched what the nervous system needed at entry.
When embodiment-related content emerged unexpectedly: check Perspective Shift. What was the body the client was in? Was any preparation done around that choice?

The map doesn't answer every question. It tells you which questions to ask.
